• Cann River

Free Stay on the Cann River. It was a caravan park but now a free stay. No power but each site has water available. Pet friendly on leash. Nice 2.4km walk through the bush, well maintained. Just up the road is the town of Cann River with a Pub, P.O, coffee shop, bakeries, lolly shop and servo. We had brake problems on the caravan and had to have parts sent from Brisbane to the P.O so all went smoothly and back on the road after 4 days.

    be careful there are snakes

  • Orbost - Banks of the Snowy River

lots of mowed sections along the Snowy River at Orbost where you can fit 1 van and a couple have spots for 2 vans so its pretty private. The Marlo road side is very busy but the other side of the river is a quieter road especially if you have pets travelling with you. The road is no through so limited traffic and good for walking the fur babies.

Be careful there are snakes around.

  • Golden Beach

The water was beautiful but cold and I didn’t go for a swim because of the currents and dangerous aspect of it so we just admired. March flies are full on down on the beach but not so much in the camping area. There are only a couple of camp areas 1-5 that take dogs and if you are in a larger van then the options are less with really only site 4 taking larger vehicles so get in early.

Ruins up the beach of the ship wrecked Trinculo are still visible. We didn’t do any good fishing.

  • Mornington Peninsula

Pictured above is Flinders Pier. It is a historic jetty the VIC Government want to demolish. There is a campaign to save the pier because it is the home and breeding ground for a vast population of Weedy Seadragon.

Visit this region it has beautiful cafes and shops as well as a number of Wineries. A little bit of country so close to Melbournes CBD

  • Bullock Campground - Marong

Just check before you go as some camp apps say its temporarily closed. We stayed here for 5 days and it was great, no-one here. Its in the bush but the road is fairly close so you do get a bit of noise. The dogs could run around freely which is always a bonus.

It was muddy going in and a few ruts so if you haven’t got a high clearance car and van I would suggest not to go right in, check conditions first.

Even though it was November it was freezing, like everywhere else so the good thing was there was loads of timber around so we could light a fire. Check out our Facebook page to see the fire pit we use. Its National Park approved so very safe. But like all fires you still need to keep an eye on them and put them out properly.
