Spirit of Tasmania
When travelling over to Tasmania with pets there are a few things to consider and do prior.
Check out our video on Youtube for the full run down. There is paperwork to complete and hydatid tapeworm treatment to give 14 days prior, see your vet for the correct dosage. Also a tick check is required either the night before or the morning prior.
You provide their bedding if needed and maybe a comfort toy. I put one of my jumpers in there with Harley. They are given water and checked regularly. Only one pet per kennel.
With Miss Woody (Sulphur Crested Cockatoo) I didn’t want to put her with the dogs so she stayed in her cage in the van. It is a good idea to let the SOT know when you book your passage or book a kennel for another pet because there is a dec form and they will put your vehicle on the ventilated deck, otherwise you could end up below and that’s not good for your pets health. We could have put the 2 dogs in the van as well but if the seas were rough I didn’t want vomite all throughout the van that night, so for $22 a kennel it is worth it and they are looked after. I know this because when we went on board I heard the dogs barking below (my ear pointed down the stairwell to hear if it was my babies). There was a dog who was upset and a couple of the crew members went down to sooth and comfort him, which was lovely.

West Coast
I thought there wouldn’t be much for us to do over on the West Coast of Tasmania because we have Pets, boy was I WRONG.
There are loads of Free Stays (low cost), Lake Gairdner, Lake Pieman, Granville Harbour, Macquarie Harbour, Strahan Golf course just to name a few so far. Lots of forest walks, Hogarth Falls, Montezuma Falls, Forest around Macquarie Harbour. Beach walks, 4wding it is so good.
When we finish exploring the West I will drop a video on our Youtube Channel so you have the run down

4wd Tracks
All the 4wding we do, we do it with the Fids (Fur & Feather Kids). So jump over to the 4wd Tracks on the menu above to get the run down on where we go.
There are a few things we do:
We have to strap Miss Woody’s cage in so she doesn’t roll around in the back.
Always make sure we have plenty of fresh water for not only us but the Fids as well. Have food on board just in case we get stuck for a period of time, warm jackets, plenty of poo bags and a few towels. Another important item we always keep in the car is a special pet First Aid kit complete with snake bite tourniquet.

The dogs and Miss Woody love exploring as much as we do so its great when they can enjoy these places as well.

Dog Parks
Tassie has lot’s of Dog parks where your dogs can run freely. Most are fenced and some do have obstacle courses.
Branxholm - pet park runs along the river and the dogs can have a swim as well. The fence to the cow paddock is electric, as Dude found out. It is a long area of about 500m they can run around.
Kingston - below Hobart has a great beach for the dogs to run around freely on
Cygnet - has a fenced area for dogs. It is next to the footy grounds bit hard to find at first. When you drive in keep looking to your left and you will see a fenced area.
St Helens - There is a lovely cafe where they make the best dog bickies, Harley loved his. The Life Buoy Cafe. So when you are waiting for your washing cross the road to the cafe.
As we travel around more I’ll keep this updated. I’ve only just started the dog parks so have missed a couple but will update soon so keep watching this space.
